What Does the ‘LED Life’ Mean?

An LED is a semiconductor light source; it produces light when a current is applied across its terminals.

This effect of producing light (via the release of energy in the form of photons).  Like everything in the world they cannot last forever, they have a lifespan.

This life span is quoted in the number of hours the LED will produce light, for most LED`s commercially available this is anywhere from 25,000 to 100,000.  Put into perspective of using a dive light:

~1hr = 1 dive

Therefore, the LED would last for 25,000 dives; that is a lot of diving!  Assuming you done five dives a day, every day the LED would last for over 12 years!
